The Physical Fitness Test, as part of the President’s Challenge, has been the standard of recognizing students for their physical fitness since 1966. Now, the government is looking to provide those of us haunted by elementary school failures the opportunity to prove that, yes, we are fit.
This Wednesday (tomorrow), the President’s Council of Physical Fitness and Sports will unveil a new tests for adults 18 and over and in good health. The challenge will be comprised of three components; aerobic, strength and flexibility. Just like in our slightly more carefree days, the test will use a timed run or walk to measure aerobics, push-ups and sit-ups to measure strength, and the hallowed sit-and-reach to measure flexibility.
Your scores can all be entered online, using other factors such as age, height, weight, gender and BMI, for an idea as to where you match up among people of the same age. Unfortunately, for those of you looking for a piece of paper to frame and save, ain’t happening.
If the idea of cramming your little, shoe-less toes under an ancient, wooden plank motivates you to get physical, terrific. If you’re like me, you’re laughing at the idea of adults trying to outdo each other in the one-mile walk for online glory. Regardless, the idea behind the test is one we shouldn’t overlook.
