A second powerful nutrient in the B-vitamin complex is B2, or Riboflavin. B2, like B1, plays a key role in metabolizing fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Riboflavin is also a large player in the production of energy and is necessary in processing amino acids and fats. More importantly, B2 is required for red blood cell formation and respiration, the production of antibodies and regulating growth.
Essential for looking great (helps keep your skin, hair, nails and even your mouth), B2 comes from a number of sources including meats, pastas, green vegetables and my favorite; mushrooms.
A B2 deficiency may cause cracks and sores at the corners of your mouth, cause eye disorders and skin lesions. More serious, it has been reported that dermatitis, dizziness, insomnia, hair loss, poor digested and slow mental responses can be linked to a lack of Riboflavin in a diet. That said, do your part and strive for the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of 1.7 mg for a grown adult (1.3 mg for an adult woman).
