So you hit the gym and you’re so amped to start your workout but you forget to stretch. You may not know it, but you could have just set yourself up to sit out for a few weeks. Muscle strains are the worst. They hurt, and they affect your activities of daily life. If you don’t properly warm up or stretch, you’re more at risk to incur a pulled muscle, or a muscle strain, when you try and take on the weights, roads or those spin classes without stretching.
If you were slightly overzealous and got ahead of yourself, here are some tips on what to do if you have pulled a muscle:
- If you think you’re ready to exercise again don’t jump right into it. Ease yourself back into it or you’ll be setting yourself up for injury again.
- When you do feel ready, start with low impact exercises like swimming or biking.
- Speak with your Doc about support bandages to protect your muscles.
- Most importantly, start stretching.
