I was on a health and fitness forum this morning, and a question was posed about body odor. The person stated that they had noticed that since beginning a workout program, their sweat had an awful odor to it. This person was wondering whether or not it had anything to do with a diet change or if it was related to the exercise program.
Sweating is one of the body’s methods of removing toxins from the body. Said toxins are the by-product of unhealthy diets. Foods such as milk, cheese, meat and animal fats – all animal products – and refined carbohydrates all contribute to toxic buildup in the body. When you begin a workout program, you are removing all of this built up waste from your body. As a result, when you sweat, you smell horrible. The more healthy the diet is, the less offensive the smell. Vegans tend to have the cleanest bodies around. (At least from an internal perspective, that is. This does not take a person’s hygiene into account.) Of course, this doesn’t mean that you have to be vegan in order to have a clean body, but taking a lesson from them, the more “clean” you eat, the better off you will be.
At a young age, we are taught to wear deodorant so as to cover up the odor which is caused by bacteria on our bodies. That is only a partial remedy. Better hygiene will fix the issue of bacteria buildup on the body. In fact, try this: spend 48 hours without a shower and without deodorant (Please, do this on a weekend or whatever time you are off from work!) If after two days your smell is ridiculously unbearable, chances are your diet is bad.
Odor and Disease
Body odor can also be indicative of diseases. Atherosclerosis, diabetes, yeast infections and various digestive disorders have all been associated with body odor.
A proper diet will help remove impurities from your body, which lends its hand to you smelling fresh all summer long. Sweating is natural; smelling doesn’t have to be.
