How many times has someone told you that you should be eating 5-6 smaller meals a day in order to keep your metabolic rate up? They say that by doing so your body will burn more calories all day long and you will have an easier time losing weight. But how true is this? You might be surprised.
Strictly speaking in terms of metabolic rate and speeding the metabolism, it shouldn’t matter whether you eat 6 meals a day or 2 meals a day - your body should burn the same amount. The thing to remember here is that whenever you eat food, your body uses calories for digestion. The smaller the meal, the fewer calories it will use. Likewise, the larger the meal, the more calories it will use. Therefore, assuming there is a diet composed of 6 meals versus a diet composed of 2 meals, if the calories still remain the same, the total amount expended through digestion will also be the same.
