The smaller, less noticeable muscles in your shoulders are just as important as the bigger muscles for benching heavy loads or performing the overhead press. The primary purpose of the rotator cuff muscles is to stabilize and support the shoulder. Along with the teres major and the deltoid the four muscles of the rotator cuff make up the six scapulohumeral (those that connect to the humerus and scapula) muscles of the human body. To help these muscles perform at their best, strength coach Keith Scott from Mens Fitness recommends these exercises be performed before your next shoulder or chest workout. With the use of a small medicine ball and the wall, you’ll develop some strong shoulders.
