close grip bench pressThis article is part 3 of my Break Out the Barbell series on exercises you can perform simply by using the bench and barbell that sit in your garage.  Today’s exercise focuses on the tricep and chest.

Close Grip Bench Press - Tricep
Lying on the same flat bench used for the regular bench press, grab the bar with a grip slightly narrower than shoulder width with your palms facing forward.  Keeping your elbows close to your body this time, slowly lower the bar to your chest before pressing back up into starting position.

While the move is utilizing your chest and shoulders, like the regular bench press, it is primarily a tricep exercise.
