By now, I’m sure you’ve all read through my 7-part series, Dumbbell Exercises to Deem Worthy (featured last week on Hesfit.com) and, well, I know what you’re thinking by now. “But Chris, what am I supposed to do with that barbell collecting dust outside in the garage?” Fine, I’ll bite. I now present for your reading pleasure, Break Out the Barbell, a ten part series to boost your muscle growth. This is part 1 of my series, a move that many guys are familiar with, the Barbell Bench Press.
Barbell Bench Press – Chest
Lie with your back flat on the bench and feet planted firmly on the floor. Taking a grip slightly wider than should width, lift the bar off the rack and extend your arms. Slowly lower the bar to your chest and, without allowing the bar bounce, press the bar up until your arms are extended. Keep your shoulder blades back and chest pressed out.
While the focus is on your chest, the move will also work your shoulders and tricep. Keep the bar steady as you lower it to your chest in order to avoid injury. A spotter being highly recommended.
